Race Report By Andy Start:
DF95 Pursuit Racing 13th September
£102.00 was raised for the Andrew “Bart” Simpson Foundation this morning, thank you for everyone that donated 😊
A very strong SW wind greeted the 7 skippers this morning, some arrived with B rigs on but quickly changed up to A’s after the first race.
A lovely long course with 2 good quality beats was laid ready for the mornings racing.
So the racing, from the results you may think, well that’s not many races, however in a change to our normal format, and to add a bit of fun to the morning, we ran, 4 x 30 min handicap pursuit races, and all agreed they were great fun 😊
The fleet was split into three with the Green fleet going of on the first hooter followed by the silver fleet 3 minutes later followed by the gold fleet a further 2 mins later, now there was a chance of promotion up the fleets until you got to the gold fleet, finishing in the top three would add a further 30 seconds to your start time, by race three AJ and Martin had a further 90 seconds added to their start, which made them both a bit twitchy 😊
Good to see Stuart J on the spit, his boat went fine once he had removed all the dust from it, stand out sailor of the day for me was Les, an outstanding last race and came so close in race 3.
As usual boat 48 was everyone’s target for the day, and most managed to hit or tangle with him (poor ole AJ).
With a swear Jar in place, it was amazing how well behaved the crew were this morning with very little bad language present, and those that did were in credit before the morning started.
Great to see Annette and Colin, and also Alan J, when he stopped falling off his stool.
But there can only be one winner, and congrats to our Commodore Martin, who just pipped Andy J to 1st place
A great mornings racing, and raising a great sum for a very worthy cause
Well done HRYC
